PTO and Elastic Motion of VLFSs Installed with OWC Type WECs

This paper describes power take-off (PTO) performance by wave energy converters (WECs) and possibility of electrical power generation in a year offshore of Japanese some coasts. A corresponding WEC system is a very large floating structure installed with many WECs of a oscillating water column (OWC) type, which are arranged along edges of the structure. The corresponding VLFS is a pontoon type so that installation in offshore sea is difficult because of large elastic motion. Because OWC type WECs harvest wave power, they also have damper function against motion of a structure. To install OWC type WECs onto a VLFS provides an electrical power base offshore and that elastic motion can be reduced by themselves.
