DC current sensor for PWM converters

A sensor for inductor current in PWM converters which offers improved performance over presently available sensors is presented. The sensor is based on a saturable transformer, derives power from existing converter waveforms, provides DC isolation, and has inherently wide bandwidth. The sensor is compared to available current sensors. A theory of operation for the sensor is presented, the results of a sensor trial demonstration are reported, and sensor limitations and additional potential applications are discussed.<<ETX>>
