Osteomata of the nose and paranasal sinuses with a report of twenty one cases

OSTEOMA is a benign tumour of bone that may be either ivory or cancellous. Osteomata of the paranasal sinuses occur either in the frontal ethmoid or the maxillary sinuses in this order of frequency. Osteoma of the sphenoid sinus and bone is very rare. Handousa (1952) recorded one case and another case is recorded in this series (Case 21). Although the site of osteoma is related to the sinus, it does not grow from the sinus cavity but i^grows from one of the bones forming ihejw^_l_of_the sinus and invades the sinus cavity later on. Hoover and Horrax (1935) suggested thatjthe classification of the osteoma of the nose and sinuses should follow the site of origin and not the space occupied by the tumour, yet the tradition ever since did not follow this suggestion.
