Error Budgeting — Applied to the Calculation and Optimization of the Volumetric Error Field of Multiaxis Systems

Summary When designing a model for multiaxis systems we assume that all errors will be concentrated in the guideways. The error field can be calculated with a simple rigid-body model. Geometrical errors of linear axes can be measured rapidly and completely (5 single errors of the guideway per axis) with a new kind of guideway measuring device. These data - they also express statistical values - are the basis for error field simulation. The circular test served to check this model (on 2-axis systems). The results show that accurate compensation data can be determined (→ Machine-Geometry Compensation).
