The Defects and Solutions of the Battery Cage System for Laying Hens

Abstract. The battery cage stocking system has the pros of high breeding density, high degree of automation and the less labor required. For this, it must be the most promising farming way for hens in future, especially in China, which is in the time of urbanization and the aging of population. The most important, it is suitable for the intensification and factory-like stocking of the laying hens. So it is essential to do some research on the battery cage system. The whole system mainly consists of the cage frame system, the feeding system, water supply system, manure belt system, the egg collecting system, environment control system and the online management system. Here, we mainly refer to the cage frame system, feeding system, water supply system and the egg collecting system. The bottom net is the most important part of the cage system, and has great influence on the growth and the performance of the hens. So we focus on the bottom net and modify the structure and some size to make it more suitable to the laying hens. The feeding system mainly consist of support frame, hopper, driving device on headend, sheave on trailing, walking support wheel and traction wire. It‘s function impact the hens‘ growth and can has great influence on the performance of the hens. The egg collection system mainly consists of longitudinal egg belt, rod conveyor and egg elevator system and has great influence on the eggs‘ quality. The water supply system consists of the filter, the regulator, the nipple drinker and the pipeline and has influence on the poultry house‘s environment and the growth of the hens. Here, we mainly make a brief introduction of the stocking equipments and present some primary means to solve the problem found on actual production, this can provide some references to others
