Fundamentals of Design

The course on Design Fundamentals involved visits to Vienna-based studios, which produce architecture in a wider sense. The central point of interest was to analyze the interplay of workplace and working methods in those studios. Interview questions focused on decision-making in the design process: what are the factors that determine decisions for architectural tasks? Is it a choice made after testing a number of possibilities? Is it the result of continual formalization of one decisive sketch? Is it formulated by being put on a contextual theoretical basis? Or is it all just a matter of coincidence, deadlines, and adrenalin flows?
