Wireless Measurement and Control System of Environmental Parameters in Greenhouse Based on ZigBee Technology

As an important part of facility agriculture, greenhouse has the vital significance in increasing crop yield per unit area and providing suitable environment for off-season crops. In order to solve the problems of the current low level intelligence of greenhouse and the adverse effect of wired transmission on the installation inconvenience, maintenance cost and stability of the system, this paper designed and developed a set of wireless measurement and control system of environmental parameters in Greenhouse. ZigBee technology was chosen to establish the wireless network due to its advantages of lower power consumption and the capability of supporting more network nodes as compared with other common short distance wireless transmission technology,. This system uses ZigBee technology to realize the wireless acquisition and transmission of parameters such as the temperature and humidity inside and outside the greenhouse, the illumination and carbon dioxide levels inside the greenhouse. The ARM processor is used to receive and handle the data transmitted from the ZigBee coordinator and control the PLC controller. The PLC controller receives the command from the ARM processor or the key on the control panel to control the actuators. Moreover, the system is capable of automatic temperature control in the greenhouse. The designed system is tested, the results shows that it can fulfill the requirements of automatic measurement and control of greenhouse environmental parameters.
