Tuning harmonic absorption of voltage source converters

This paper develops a tool for controlling the harmonic absorption of hysteretic controlled voltage source converters that are connected to a power system. Each VSC is controlled by a state feedback control input to a hysteretic comparator. A suitable model of the converter is first developed by including the state feedback gains and hysteretic switching controller design. It is shown how adjusting the design parameters of the controller of the LCL filter can make a significant change in the amount of harmonics absorbed by a converter. An ideal current controlled converter absorbs little harmonics from the system while an ideal voltage source converter will absorb all local harmonics.
