Syntheses and Biological Activities of ( ± )-Streptovitacin A and E ^

Streptovitacin A (STV-A; 1), which is a hydroxylated analog of cycloheximide (3), is known as an antitumor and antifungal agent that has been isolated from the cultured broth of Streptomyces griseus.2) E-73 (2), which has been isolated from the cultured broth of Streptomyces albulus, is &n acetylated analog of STV-A.3) Their structures and stereochemistries have been elucidated by Herr et al.2d) and Johnson et al.4) Streptovitacin C2, a hydroxyl group regioisomer of 1, was previously synthesized by Kudo et alp but STV-A (1) and E-73 (2) have not been synthesized. In this paper, we report the syntheses of (±)-STV-A, its stereoisomers and (±)-E-73, and their biological
