The Grammar of Telegraphic Structures

L'A. examine les structures d'enonces telegraphiques anglais du point de vue de la grammaire generative. Afin de montrer que l'ellipse n'est pas le seul mecanisme grammatical a la base des structures telegraphiques, il propose une distinction entre deux types de structures telegraphiques pouvant etre expliquees par differentes derivations grammaticales. Cette distinction oppose les structures phrastiques, dans lesquelles l'ellipse joue un role important, et les structures non phrastiques, qui representent des constituants independants non phrastiques. L'A. suggere ici que les deux approches en concurrence dans la grammaire generative pour expliquer les structures plus petites que des phrases (l'analyse de l'ellipse et l'analyse non phrastique), sont necessaires pour une explication complete du corpus
