Liquid effluents of the fish canning industries of Rio de Janeiro state ‐ Treatment alternatives

Abstract This work presents an evaluation of the pollution problems associated with the liquid effluents of the fish‐canning industries and bench scale results of treatment process. The selected alternative for treatment is composed of three sequential stages: simple sedimentation, chemical coagulation/flocculation and aerobic biological reaction. Overall removal efficiencies obtained were: COD‐78%, oil and grease ‐ 96% and suspended solids ‐ 83%.
