Multi-process biological treatment model.

A computerized biological treatment model, BIOTREAT, includes use of both stoichiometry and kinetics for the study of a wide variety of biological pro cesses. Many models of biological treat ment of wastewaters have been developed that use selected biological growth and substrate utilization equations for the particular process being modeled. The BIOTREAT model, however, may be used as a design aid for a full range of bio logical processes using suspended growth in a complete mix reactor. These systems may include either autotrophic or hetero trophic biological activity under either aerobic or anaerobic conditions, with or without suspended solids (ss) recycle. Common process applications for BIO TREAT include activated sludge, aerated lagoons, nitrification, denitrification, sul fate reduction, anaerobic or aerobic diges tion, and anaerobic ponds. The BIO TREAT computer program, in FORTRAN IV language, may be obtained from the authors.
