How Did Unreinforced Masonry Buildings Perform in the February 2011 Christchurch Earthquake

On 22 February 2011 a magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand, devastating Christchurch and the surrounding areas. The epicentre was located in Lyttleton, about 10 km south of Christchurch. Christchurch is the business and cultural centre of the South Island, with many of the flights into the South Island arriving in Christchurch. The affected population is approximately 377,000 people.
