A Scenario Driven Emulator for Wireless, Fixed and Ad Hoc Networks

When compared to fixed networks the wireless environment presents different challenges, not least of which is the need for methods of developing and testing applications in these novel environments. This paper presents a tool that forms a basis for addressing that need through scenario- driven network emulation. Our emulator is an extension of an earlier one that only supported fixed networks. The new emulator allows for mixes of both wireless and wired networks, and includes provision for ad hoc networks. In addition, the use of scenarios of participant interaction patterns has necessarily been supplemented to include mobility patterns.
