A new flight training device (FTD) for modern lightweight gyroplanes was developed at the DLR Institute of Flight Systems aiming at further improvements of gyroplane flight safety and training efficiency. For this purpose an overall simulation model of an MTOsport gyroplane was developed validated by flight test data. Afterwards the FTD was operated in the flight school Thomas Kiggen in Hildesheim within the period of April 2011 to spring 2012 in order to asses is training efficiency.
This report presents the simulation fidelity of the MTOsport FTD and in particular the validation of the simulation model by presenting the Proof of Mach (PoM) plots. Furthermore an overview of the parameter estimation process, the flight test instrumentation (FTI), the test flights and the simulator hardware ist provided.
