Laser‐based Preparation of Biological Tissue

Histological analysis of biological specimens is the gold standard and mandatory if medical products like implants shall get approval according to FDA (USA), The Act on Medical Devices (Germany) or others. Unfortunately, most of these specimens with implants are extremely difficult to process due to the hardness of the materials. Femtosecond lasers are known to process a variety of materials without any significant thermal damage [1, 2]. Femtosecond laser based microtomy is much faster, saves valuable material of the specimens and can provide better histological sections than standard methods.
