The papers in this special section focus on the modeling and control of electrified vehicles and transportation services. Electrified vehicles, such as battery electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, expedite the paradigm shift towards sustainable transportation systems with reduced dependency on fossil fuels and reduced pollutants. The large-scale proliferation of electrified vehicle and transportation technologies is enabled with advancement in modeling, simulation, control, and optimization paradigms, system integration, mechatronic system diagnostics and prognostics, as well as economical incentives and public policy. The primary objective of this Special Issue is to promote the market penetration of electrified vehicles by providing timely solutions for pressing technological challenges in modeling, simulation, control, and optimization of electrified vehicles and transportation systems, including engines, power electronics, electric machines, energy storage devices, charging stations, mechatronics, driving conditions, and economic aspects.
