A New Handoff Ordering and Reduction Scheme Based on Road Topology Information

In this paper, we present a scheme for handoff ordering and reduction by using location information and trajectory prediction of a mobile terminal as mobile devices of the future are likely to be equipped with accurate positioning and advanced data processing capabilities, we used this new feature for mobility predictions based on road topology information and change in received signal strength (DeltaRSS) of a mobile terminal. Every mobile terminal calculates its probability of handoff (PHO) and its target base station (BS) and this information is used by host BS for dynamic resource reservations. Comparison between traditional and proposed handoff schemes points to reduction in total number of handoffs and new call blocking as confirmed by simulation results
