ANALYSIS OF MR FLUIDS FLOW IN A RECTANGULAR CHANNEL CONSIDERING MAGNETO-RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Governing equations of MR fluids using improved Bingham model and considering anisotropic rheological properties in the applied magnetic field are proposed to analyze MR fluids flow in a rectangular channel. It is found that the flow rate decreases linearly with magnetic field intensity, which is remarkable for large anisotropic parameter of shear stress and small aspect ratio of channel cross section in the strong magnetic field intensity and small pressure gradient. The pressure gradient becomes steep in the applied magnetic field region, which results from large viscous drag force caused by increasing yield stress. The pressure distribution shows the same tendency as experimental result.
