Loss and Thermal Analyses for Modular Multilevel Converters

A modular multilevel converter exhibits large loss and temperature differences within a submodule when operated with a power factor close to unity. It has been shown that these temperature differences can be decreased by implementing low loss modulation techniques and circulating current control, increasing reliability and lifetime.
