STATUS OF INSECTICIDE RESISTANCE IN Bemisia tabaci (GENNADIUS) ON Bt COTTON

The present studies on „Status of insecticide resistance in Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) on Bt cotton‟ was carried out at Entomological Research Farm and IPM Laboratory, Department of Entomology, PAU, Ludhiana. Development of resistance in B. tabaci populations collected from four locations namely Mansa, Bathinda, Abohar and Ludhiana of Punjab towards conventional insecticides and toxicity of novel insecticides towards this pest was determined. Among different populations, Ludhiana population was found to be more susceptible with LC50 values (0.005-1.562%) to all the tested insecticides whereas Abohar population was found to be least susceptible with LC50 values (0.004-3.673%). Among conventional insecticides, order of toxicity was ethion >triazophos > acetamiprid >imidacloprid >thiamethoxam. Among different locations, ethion was found to be most toxic followed by triazophos >acetamiprid >thiamethoxam >imidacloprid with LC50 values (0.008-1.418%) for Mansa population. Almost similar trend was observed for Bathinda populations. However, trend followed in Abohar population was ethion >triazophos >acetamiprid >imidacloprid >thiamethoxam with LC50 values (0.013-3.673%). Among new insecticides, dinotefuran was found to be most effective followed by diafenthiuron and spiromesifen >flonicamid with slight difference with LC50 values (0.007-0.037%). For Abohar population, order of toxicity was dinotefuran >diafenthiuron >spiromesifen >flonicamid with LC50 values (0.004-0.073%). For Mansa population, order of toxicity was dinotefuron >spiromesifen >flonicamid> diafenthiuron with LC50 values (0.004-0.057%). The experiment on effect of selection pressure of new insecticides revealed that B. tabaci developed 1.4 and 6.3 fold resistance in F4 generation and 1.6 and 6.7 fold resistance in F8 generation towards dinotefuron and diafenthiuron, respectively. Baseline data of these new chemistry molecules will be very helpful to detect the resistance levels in this pest at different time intervals.
