Reducing Cyber Risk

The United States’ marine transportation system relies on a great deal of cyber technology, and it is necessary to take action to reduce risk. Recently, the Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity was released by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The framework can be used to assess cybersecurity programs. In addition, the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act can provide protection and reduce cyber liabilities. Adopting cybersecurity standards, acquiring cybersecurity insurance, and obtaining protection under the SAFETY Act can help reduce risks and expenses for the marine transportation system.
