The venographic localization of incompetent communicating veins in the leg.

Two venographic methods of identifying the position of incompetent communicating veins in the lower limb are described. The venographic, clinical and operative findings are compared in 40 cases of suspected incompetent communicating veins in the thigh, and in 35 similar cases below the knee. It was found that the results obtained by venography were much more accurate than those obtained by clinical methods, especially in the thigh where the venographic techniques are more satisfactory than in the lower leg. It was concluded that by the use of enography surgical treatment of varicose veins might be made more effective, and the incidence of recurrences very much reduced.
