Multimedia medical diagnostic document

The medical multimedia document, commonly called a diagnostic report, may contain text, numerical values, spatial and temporal coordinates, and references to images or to time-based waveforms. We present and discuss the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) solution for a multimedia document. We also compare this solution to the eXtensible Markup Language (XML), and we propose a document object model (DOM) that models the DICOM structured report.
