Influence of the anisotropy axis direction and ribbon geometry on the giant magnetoimpedance of Metglas® 2705M

We studied the effect of the direction of the easy magnetization axis on the giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) in Metglas® 2705M as-cast amorphous ribbons in the frequency range from 100 kHz to 10 MHz and bias current from 1.0 to 20.0 mA. We showed that the GMI sensitivity can increase up to about 10 times, depending on how the ribbon samples are cut relative to the easy magnetization axis of the ribbon spool and on the biasing frequency. In addition, we studied the effect on the GMI sensitivity against variations in length and width of the cut ribbon samples.
