Design and optimization of switched reluctance motor for electrical vehicles

This paper deals with replacement of an existing DC motor by an optimized switched reluctance motor (SRM) for an automotive application, especially for electrical vehicles. The SRM was designed by means of 2D and 3D software based on finite element method and independently designed by a new optimization procedure. The input parameters were taken into account on requirements for a real electrical vehicle, e.g., maximum torque, acceleration and power at different speeds. The designed and subsequently optimized motor was constructed, and the static nonlinear and dynamic performances and parameters were measured and compared with the calculated ones.
