This paper describes a digital signal processor-based motor health monitoring system (MHMS) for predictive maintenance of DC motor operating in hot strip rolling mills. It receives current signals from the motor and analyzes it. Users are allowed to select the current measurement accuracy, number of motors and timer period which is for selecting time intervals between two data packets. The data packets are exported to PC via serial port for graphical display. The system can monitor any number of motors requiring only addition of high speed multiplexer. The constraints on number of motors are the multiplexing speed of multiplexer and the accuracy in measurement of current
