Research on relationship between harmonic currents and resultant harmonic magnetomotive forces in multiphase machines

Appropriate configurations of windings in multiphase machines are crucial to optimize the performances of machines. Based on the phase belts per pair of poles, the configurations of multiphase windings can be classified into two groups: m-phase windings and semi m-phase windings. This paper discusses the relationship between harmonic currents and resultant harmonic magnetomotive forces (MMFs) in multiphase machines with m-phase windings and semi m-phase windings. A simplified multiphase machine model is built and the magnetic flux density in the airgap is calculated by finite element method (FEM) and magnetic circuit calculation method (MCCM) respectively. A good agreement of results by two methods validates the correctness of the relationship between harmonic current and harmonic resultant MMFs.
