Comparison of signature sequences for synchronization of UWB systems

Ultra-wide bandwidth technology, using very sharp impulse signals, has been proposed as a possible solution for short-range indoor communication applications. However, due to the short length of the impulse signal, a very precise synchronization control is vital for the whole system. Six different signature sequences, namely CAZAC sequence, CROU sequence, m-sequence, Schroeder sequence, Hadamard sequence and optimal channel estimation sequence, are considered as the candidates for the preamble sequence. Various synchronization parameters are studied for the above sequences and different performance matrices, such as probability of acquisition, probability of missed detection and probability of false detection, are analyzed and compared.
