Research on thermal analysis of the charger for electric vehicle

Since heat sinking is one of the most important issues in power electronics equipment such as the charger for electric vehicle, this paper deals with the problem how to make a better thermal design. As high power equipment, charger generates much heat while operating. Especially in the high temperature field, it will lead to paralysis of the whole charging system if it was not dealt with very well. With the purpose of charging the electric vehicles which will be used in Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the chargerpsilas stability is obviously much more important, since it could affect the operation of the electric vehicle system. Therefore, during the design phase, it is badly needed to analyse the temperature field inside the charger, choose the appropriate heat sinking mode, and optimize the design. In this paper, a mathematic model was built at first. Then, two methods to simulate the steady thermal field of power electronic devices (Take two IGBTs as an example.) and their radiator were also presented. After the experiment, their validity had been proved.
