CARIOCA-drifting buoys to monitor global warming

CARIOCA is a collaborative EUROMAR project established to generate an autonomous, buoy-borne sensor package capable of measuring the partial pressure of carbon dioxide at the air-sea interface unattended over a period of 12 months. This measurement, carried out throughout the world's oceans, will allow the extent of exchange of carbon dioxide, between the atmosphere and the sea surface to be quantified and thus the contribution of carbon dioxide emissions to global warming can be accurately modelled. In order to fulfill the technical objectives of CARIOCA, specialised high performance, low power sensors have been developed.<<ETX>>
