This paper presents an analysis and experimental verification of the operating point stability of a synchronous motor supplied from a current source inverter with simple frequency control of motor speed. The effects of magnetic saturation in the motor and of inverter imperfection are included in the analysis. In contrast with earlier analyses based on an ideal inverter, it is shown that the inverter parameters have a dominant effect on stability.
