Fast compensation by a pulsed resonant current source active power filter

Two current source, high frequency resonant soft switched, inverter based, active power filters (APF) are discussed. High switching speeds lead to a fast transient response of injected current. Compensation of harmonics and random noise is possible. A new vector calculator is presented which provides an instantaneous value of the 'balanced' fundamental real load current needed to support the real power requirements of the three-phase load. The injected current reference is derived from the difference between the real current and the actual load current. Fundamental VAr or power factor compensation can be carried out at the same time.<<ETX>>
