All-optical label swapping technologies and node architectures

All-optical label swapping (AOLS) is a promising approach for transparent optical packet switching and forwarding in the optical layer at high-speeds close to fibre line-rate. In this paper, an all-optical packet switch implementing AOLS technologies as functional subsystems is described. A node architecture based on state-of-art technologies for WDM simultaneous all-optical time-serial label swapping is presented.
