Integrated Modeling of Sugarcane Cultivation and Ethanol Fermentation from Agriculture and Engineering Perspectives

Abstract We developed an integrated model from sugarcane cultivation to ethanol fermentation. Using developed models, an assessment case study was performed for producing sugar and ethanol from two sugarcane cultivars. This case study demonstrates that an appropriate cultivar selection considering the conditions of cultivation area enables the increase of ethanol production with the same amount of sugar production. We concluded that cultivation and engineering processes should be optimized in an integrated manner. The development of computer-aided process engineering tools for agricultural process enables the clarification and fulfillment of the potential of biomass for sustainability.
