Efficient Approaches for the Analysis of Metal-Flanged Aperture Arrays

The problem of an efficient and accurate analysis, also rigorously accounting for mutual coupling effects, of a small to medium size array of flange-mounted elliptical or rectangular waveguide apertures is investigated. For the rectangular case a comparison between different formulations is performed and the most efficient one, for a range of aperture dimensions, is identified. A novel and enhanced solution is proposed for clusters of elliptical waveguide radiators, by appropriately using the geometrical properties of the array. Measured and theoretical results are shown with reference to a medium-size rectangular array and also for the case of elliptical radiators: in both instances the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed approach are validated.
