Process-Centered Information Systems

The purpose of this paper is to present a Process-Centered Modeling (PCM) procedure for the development of the conceptual infrastructure of Process-Centered Information Systems (PCIS). The modeling procedure is a formalization of the organizational model proposed by Hammer for PCOs (Process-Centered Organizations). Two main primitives, namely, Activity Diagrams and Activity Matrices, are proposed for model development. Based on these constructs, activity and team profiles, together with user (actor) profiles, as well as the corresponding user areas, are automatically defined and generated, reflecting the tasks assigned to each specific user. Timing constraints are taken into consideration. An IS for management and quality assessment of Programs performance, under development at IST,has been developed. This system is a demonstrator of PCM procedure and its features.
