Optimal Scheduling of Hydrothermal Systems - An Overview

Abstract Operations scheduling of a hydrothermal system has to take into account a wide spictrum of activities, ranging from multi-year reservoir optimization to hourly security-constrained dispatch. The complexities of the operations scheduling problem cannot be accommodated by a single model, and it becomes necessary to develop “chains” of mode s with different planning horizons and degrees of detail in system representation. This paper outlines and discusses some of the methodologies and approaches developed to solve the hydrothermal scheduling problem in different systems.
