Ultrasubharmonic resonance in a Duffing system

Abstract An ultrasubharmonic resonance of the type 3 2 can occur in a quasilinear system of Duffing type when the second harmonic is present in the excitation. The theoretical results obtained by the small parameter and harmonic balance methods are compared with analog computer solutions. It is shown that the presumption, often successfully used in solving subharmonic vibration problems, is not applicable here.
