Research of aircraft cable fray fault detecting method based on Hilbert Huang transformation

The fray fault of the aircraft wire is always considered difficult to be detected. But it would be a serious threat to the safety of the aircraft. As the flight of the aircraft, the fray fault can be more and more serious and it would become open or short circuit at last. In this paper a new and useful method was proposed to deal with the fray fault. A mathematic model of aircraft wire fray fault are presented based on time domain reflectometry (TDR) at first. Then the phenomenon of the fray fault can be predicted that there would be a small range of positive impulse in the fray location. So Time and Frequency Domain Reflectometry (TFDR) was adopted in this paper and the Hilbert Huang transformation (HHT) was used to transform the signals in the time domain into the frequency domain. In this way the fray fault can be detected effectively and the fray location can be made clearly. With this method the limitation that the fray fault can not be detected effectively with TDR only has been solved and it is a complementarity to the detection of the aircraft wire.
