Formation of gaseous microparticles by ultraviolet laser excitation of metal carbonyls

The formation of clusters and microparticles was observed as a result of the ultraviolet excitation of Mo(CO)6, Cr(CO)6, and W(CO)6 gases by XeCl laser radiation. It was found that in the case of Mo(CO)6, the product microparticles emitted high-intensity visible luminescence on exposure to the next XeCl laser pulse.
