THE BIRMINGHAM CLAMP STATED PREFERENCE SURVEY. 2ND INTERIM REPORT TO BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL

This report describes a series of computer based stated preference (SP) interviews that were carried out to provide data for the calibration of key decision sub-models within CLAMP (Computer Based Local Area Model of Parking). The proposed structure of the CLAMP model embodies disaggregate choice models addressing destination, mode and parking type choice, as described in the first interim report (see IRRD 828961). In the pilot application of CLAMP carried out in Birmingham in 1988, the parameters of these choice models were set to default values derived from previous applications of the model in the United Kingdom and West Germany, (see IRRD 813684). The aim of the survey work described in this report is to derive Birmingham specific values for these parameters. The report covers: (1) the survey methodology; (2) the statistical design of the SP exercises; and (3) the proposed methods of analysis of the SP data. In addition the report also presents some preliminary results from the analysis of the personal and journey related information collected in the interviews.
