LOGGING IDENTIFICATION AND EVALUATION METHODS FOR GAS HYDRATE

In recent years, China has made investigations of marine gas hydrate, paid more attention to projects on gas hydrate, and gained great progress. How to identify and evaluate the gas hydrate is a new task for geophysicists. Though geophysical well logging is a traditional evaluation method for oil/gas reservoirs, it is also one of the most effective evaluation techniques for gas hydrates reservoirs. This paper reviews the status quo of gas hydrate at home and abroad, summarizes geophysical characteristics of the gas hydrate, and then introduces how to identify the gas hydratebearing formations by making use of resistivity log and acoustic velocity data. Of course, further work should be done to improve such geophysical well logging methods. Since the focus on gas hydrate in our country is just at the beginning in recent years, we still have a long way to go to catch up with the advanced international levels. The authors hope that the paper will help attract some attention of the geoscientists to the geophysical logging work.
