Propagation-Aware Online Packet Classification for Live Video Streaming over DiffServ Networks

Although a two-class DiffServ network provides certain transmission quality guarantees for live video streaming, the received video quality may still be seriously degraded if it lacks an effective online classification mechanism for video packets. By analyzing the available coding information in encoded frames and error-propagation effect in future frames, a propagation-aware online packet classification scheme is proposed to timely classify different packets in the current frame. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly increase the determination accuracy of traffic classes, and thus effectively improve loss resilience of live video streaming over the two-class DiffServ network.
