System and method for providing video contents with video ip phone during audio-only communication

A system and a method for transmitting video contents to a video-supporting terminal during a voice call are provided to connect a video channel of a video Internet phone to a media server while a video Internet phone user talks over the telephone with a user of a terminal supporting only audio, so that the video Internet phone user can talk over the telephone with the other party as watching a video provided from the media server. A system for transmitting video contents to a video-supporting terminal during a voice call comprises the followings: a storage(60); a call processor(30); a controller(40); and a contents provider(50). When one of terminals(10,20) of one or the other side is a video-only terminal(10) and the other terminal is an audio-only terminal(20), the controller(40) adds video channel information of the contents provider(50) if there is no video channel information during relay of channel information. After that, the controller(40) transmits the added channel information to the video-only terminal(10). The controller(40) transmits video channel information of the video-only terminal(10) and video contents acquired from the storage(60) to the contents provider(50).
