The intergenerational transmission of divorce risk in the Netherlands is analyzed with the data of the Netherlands Family Survey 1992-1994. We control for factors which might explain divorce of parents and children. The aim of this controls is to see whether the intergenerational transmission of divorce can be explained by three possible mechanisms of this transmission: stress, economic deprivation or stigmatisation. We find that these three mechanisms cannot explain the intergenerational transmission of divorce risk in the Netherlands. We don't find a lower effect of parental divorce for a younger generation or a different effect of parental divorce on their sons' or daughters' divorce risk.
