Theory of the dynamical Stark effect

We show that semi-classical theory provides an adequate description of the dynamical Stark effect recently observed in sodium vapour. Theory predicts consistently both optical nutation and a three-peaked Stark spectrum. Similar results are expected from the quantized theory.
