Human Factor Consideration in Motor Vehicle Collisions

The current chapter aims to present basic descriptive and epidemiologic data characterizing motor vehicle collisions (MVCs) and the human collision factors that influence their likelihood. In doing so, the vehicular, environmental, and human factors contributing to MVCs will be discussed and the remainder of the chapter will consider these factors within the context of clinical populations. Thus, this chapter provides base rate information regarding the multiple factors that contribute to MVCs in the general population as a precursor to understanding the assessment of driving ability in neurologically impaired populations.
