XII Pathologic Vocal Initiation

The initial period of phonation is considered to be a critical phase of phonation, and consequently has long drawn the attention of scientists from various disciplines. Clinicians, too, have been interested in the initiation of phonation because of the importance of proper initiation for vocal hygiene. These varied concerns have resulted in numerous empirical descriptions of vocal initiation; objective studies, although not extensive, were conducted as early as 1925.1.2
