Pulse Codings of a Spiking Neuron Having Quantized State

A spiking neuron with a quantized state can have various periodic spike-trains and generates one of them depending on an initial state. We analyze basic characteristics of the neuron, e.g., number of the co-existing spike-trains and their periods. Using a spike position modulation, the spike-train can be encoded by a digital sequence. It is clarified that the QSN can realize a Binary or a Gray codings for the spike-trains by simply adjusting a system parameter. Also, we present a simple pulse-coupled network and consider its basic pulse coding characteristics. Using a simple test circuit, typical phenomena are confirmed experimentally.
